It was a good movie for its time. But Carrey has changed his style. I think audiences got tired of his 'over the top' performances. The first few were good but it got to be too much. So in later films, like Liar Liar and Truman, he toned it down a bit. And he was even more popular. I haven't seen his latest, but I want to.





Carrey got famous for something that nobody's done in a long time, it used to be called 'rubber face' comedy. The Mask gave him a great opportunity to do that. But rubber face comics come and go very quickly, and then are remembered as embarrassments--the last great one was Jerry Lewis (though Red Skelton almost qualifies). Carrey 'grew up' as a comic actor and I really think that's the reason he's still so popular.
It depends. I didn't think they wrote the story of the Mask correctly in the first place, considering that in the comic, Stanley IpKiss gets shot in the end. (sorry if I ruined it). That would've been better considering that The Mask is a demented anti-hero.





Now they way they wrote the movie was more to appeal to kiddies I guess. So, sure I guess he was better than average. Which did he do first, The Mask or that wretched Batman movie where he was the Riddler? Really, the Riddler and the Mask were pretty much the same character. I don't think that back then that Jim Carrey had a lot of acting range.





Now I won't even touch the Son of the Mask because that looks horrible. So I guess I don't really miss him. Let's say that I'm glad I only paid $5 for it.


It's just my opinion.

I actually thought the second movie was horrible, especially without Jim Carrey and Carmen Diaz (?). Jim Carrey wanted more money than the studio was willing to pay, so they chose a lesser actor to play the mask role.

No I think it's fine for that age group, it does have a few scary moments from what I remember but nothing too bad. I think the 6 year old may be a little frightened (depending on their nature) but other than that it's a great movie. I don't think it's too racy, she's more of a cartoon type character herself in it, kinda like Jessica Rabbit, sexy but child friendly, I wouldn't worry about that.Do you think the movie ';the mask'; with jim carey?
my kids love it. there isn't anything innapropriate that i have seen of jim carey in any of his movies. my kids absolutely adore him. liar liar, bruce almighty, the mask, both ace venturas, etc. even the scary one numbers, my 2 12 year olds loved.
the 13 year old deserves to see that. he knows how to be mature. the 8 year old might aks you ';what does that mean or laugh at random violence'; as for the 6 year old, he might be a little too young. have him be taken out with your husband and have him take the 6 year old out of the house
I think it's appropriate for that age group. Any romance in the movie is comical and not really sexual. The Diaz character is supposed to be sexy obviously but I don't think it's too racy.
The movie is hilarious.


Jim Carrie made that movie. I think it was made for kids.


Its got a funny plot and also a great lesson.


But its something good for the kids to be more open to the world.

better ';the Mask'; than almost ANY other pg-13 movie that has been released in the last couple of years. Its funny, and they dont swear nearly as much as some pg-13's today.

Note; I adopted two adult shelter cats both were strays so we had no history of the animals, they said two torishell wouldn't get along because tortishells are bossy cats. Cameo 1 of cats was former Dumpster cat. Puzzle was badly treated, she was very skitish. But they both were perfect for our lifestyle. We lost them both in a housefire less then two months after we got them.
Don't get a certain breed of dog because you see one in the movies. Those dogs are highly trained to behave in a certain way as the script requires, and their behavior is never representative of that breed of dog in real life.





If you're interested in that, or any, breed, do your homework to be sure that it fits your lifestyle, and in general is a suitable dog for you. Try to meet some and see what they are like. Go to a dog show and talk to owners of that breed. Most are more than glad to talk about their dogs, unless they are getting ready to go into the ring, or have a dog that is showing at the moment. Or attend a meeting of your local kennel club and try to meet some owners that way.

You're right, they won't help unless you change it every couple of hours. They are not that fun to wear, itchy and difficult to breathe.

What is wrong with them? did they get a nose job, went to dentist or do they think they cannot breathe regular air? I have no idea why they wear that, have any of you had to? The main reasons: prevent getting germs or pollutants. prevent spreading germs.


In a lot of Asian countries (like South Korea) the pollution is so bad, that having a mask cuts down on the damaging health effects that breathing the air has. It also filters out certain things like germs, tear gas, etc.

A friend who visited Japan told me that Atmosphere is really polluted over there.


Sometimes they have good days where the polluted air is above the city and some days the pollution settles lower in the city which is why they need to wear masks or stay indoors. I would of thought it was worse than standing between four old trucks bellowing smoke.

SARS is a contagious virus that you can get by breathing it in if it's in the air around you. They were frankly terrified of such a thing. I'm not sure that they still wear them, though.

Masks are very good to wear. The cheap ones don't help you, but prevent others around you from getting infected by anything you have (and they only last 20 minutes) but the more up market ones are very good. I live in Hong Kong and people wear masks there all the time. During SARS we were forced to. It may be somewhat uncomfortable, but I don't think there is anything wrong with it.

1. They are sick, and dont wanna cough all over people


2. A cold is going around and they dont want to catch it

The recent worrying events in Mexico about a possible flu pandemic have got me wandering if doing something like getting hold of some surgical masks to wear is a good preventative idea. The Flu Jab will not protect you from this strain. The current vaccine for swine flu (the human strain) will not cure it either. The current outbreak is of a new genetic strain of H1N1. The new strain is resistant to the two oldest vaccines for swine flu amantadine and rimantadine, but susceptible to oseltamivir (Tamiflu) and zanamivir (Relenza).

Remember Anthrax?


Missing vials of a potentially dangerous virus have prompted an Army investigation into the disappearance from a lab in Maryland.


Fort Detrick is the home of the Army’s top biological research facility.


The Army’s Criminal Investigation Command agents have been visiting Fort Detrick in Frederick, Maryland, to investigate the disappearance of the vials. Christopher Grey, spokesman for the command, said this latest investigation has found “no evidence of criminal activity.”


The vials contained samples of Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis, a virus that sickens horses and can be spread to humans by mosquitoes. In 97 percent of cases, humans with the virus suffer flu-like symptoms, but it can be deadly in about 1 out of 100 cases, according to Caree Vander Linden, a spokeswoman for the Army’s Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases. There is an effective vaccine for the disease and there hasn’t been an outbreak in the United States since 1971.


The vials had been at the research institute's facility at Fort Detrick, home of the Army's top biological research facility, for more than a decade. The three missing vials were among thousands of vials that were under the control of a senior scientist who retired in 2004. When another Fort Detrick scientist recently inventoried the retired scientist's biological samples, he discovered that the three vials of the virus were missing. The original scientist's records about his vials dated back to the days of paper-and-pen inventories.


During the investigation, the retired scientist and another former Fort Detrick researcher cooperated with investigating agents and, according to Vander Linden, they came back to the facility to help look for the vials.


Vander Linden said the investigators know that several years ago an entire freezer full of biological samples broke down and all the samples had to be safely destroyed. But a complete inventory of what was in the freezer was not done before the samples were destroyed. Vander Linden said there's a ';strong possibility'; the vials were in that freezer and destroyed, but that isn't known for sure.


This investigation comes two months after all research at the research institute facility at Fort Detrick was halted for a complete computer-based inventory of all disease samples at the fort. That inventory is expected to be complete before summer and may help solve the mystery of the three missing vials, officials said.


The Army investigation is in its final stages and is expected to be closed soon.

Those masks can only protect against bacteria and other germs that are bigger than bacteria, but viruses are smaller than bacteria and they can get through the masks. They aren't worth it, and the swine flu isn't going to kill the world. The media is just freaking out over it because they love scaring people.
There is no place where you can buy a disposable surgical mask to prevent yourself from getting swine flu. They do not act to keep you from getting sick.. the idea is so that you won't be getting others sick. They trap coughs sneezes and moist exhalations loaded with virus from getting on others and surfaces. They do not prevent virus bodies from coming in through your breath. Most drugstores have these masks readily available, so look around if it will make you feel better. However, if you really are exposed, then a mask won't do anything to help prevent it other than keep you from being able to touch your nose and mouth.
Surgical masks are useless. the only mask that MAY help is a N95 Mask and you can get that at a hardware store. The fact is Influenza A kills several thousand people each year. So far there has been, I believe, one fatality with the swine flu and it was a kid who had other health issues.There is no need to go into panic mode no matter what the media would have you believe. So don't be careless and stupid. I mean do what you normally do during flu season but don't freak. And don't think you are automatically ';Safe'; because you have a mask on. If you do exhibit symptoms call your doctors office for a prescription.

2.) The media has turned this into an 'end of days' scenario which it isn't.





3.) Just wash your hands and keep some hand sanitizer on you. Avoid anyone who is sick.





4.) The mask will not prevent you from getting it, it'll just help deter you giving it to someone else.
Experts say masks actually don't help all that much. Although it IS true it can possibly stop some germs....some say it is in fact WORSE. It detures you from covering you mouth, washing you hands, ect. Honestly...your better off just washing you hands like you should during flu seasion.

Why surgical masks have a blue and white side?

why do some surgical masks has different colours at each side (one side is white and the other blue)- does it matter if you wear the white side inwards and the blue side outwards?

so you can see which side you started with..do one operation, flip the mask over and go to the next one...saves money!!

A surgical mask was made in two different colors are obviously for user to differentiate the the sides from one and other. As we can observe, the colored side was designed to have a lower water absorbent ability as the other side (white) designed w/out this feature. Hence, without any doubt, the inner side should be colored in-order for the surgical mask to provide better protection and comfort for the user throughout the day.


P/s: As we speak, we tend to release tiny sprays of saliva which one of the reason the colored side being made that way.
Check the packaging they came in - should tell you. There's no way to guess they are all different!
