Do surgical masks prevent the spread of swine flu?

Masks are helpful in filtering out large droplets--like if someone directs a juicy sneeze in your direction but will not prevent something as tiny as a virus from getting through. A virus laughs at your mask and can get into your body as easily through the mask material as gnat can go through an open garage door.

Check out the link below to Cells Alive! to get an idea of the size of a virus.Do surgical masks prevent the spread of swine flu?
not 100%

You can also get it by touching your face, mouth and/or nose after touching someone who has the virus and doesnt wash their hands, cover their mouth when they cough..etc.

the best thing you can do is cover your mouth or nose when you cough/ sneeze and use those hand sanitizers. wash your hands often with alot of soap and warm water.

I dont care if i look silly with that surgical mask, if it gets that bad..ill wear one too!Do surgical masks prevent the spread of swine flu?
they are supposed to help by helping filter what you breathe in and help keep germs and other things out that may expose you to the highly contagious flu. dont wear one. you'll look duuuuumb
It helps. Swine flu is spread like a cold. If you stop from breathing it, you will not get sick. A mask is only a filter though.
