My dad has cancer and my mom is afraid that he could get the swine flu and it would be worse because he is already sick with cancer.

surgical masks have not been proven to stop or prevent any part of the swine flu at all. he is better off just making sure he washes his hands and that no one coughs or sneezes around him. same thing with any other flu in the world.
Sorry about your dads condition. The biggest thing you can do is Pray. The mask couldn't hurt at least if he is around a group of people. Just ask him to wear it for you, tell him you would feel much better it he did, since his immune system in down right now.
