If a Main Character wore a mask all the way through the tv Programme and series would it work?

Or do you think the public would rather see the persons face? Ive created/in the process of creating a sci-fi script and the main character wears a mask The idea being that the're will be a background story or mystery as to why he wears the mask in amongst the main storys hints will be dropped but my friend suggested that main characters in masks never work he said that Things like Batman and Spiderman work because we get to see their faces now and then as they have alter ego's but my character wont reveal who he is and no'one will know his true identity until the very last series! Will it work? Has it worked before in the past? Could it be a ratings buster? If a Main Character wore a mask all the way through the tv Programme and series would it work?
Remember Sylvester Stallone in the movie version of Judge Dredd? Well, in the original comic series (2000 AD), Judge Dredd was NEVER pictured without his helmet (not THAT type of helmet, missus!), which covered his face........this was not the case in the movie, however......If a Main Character wore a mask all the way through the tv Programme and series would it work?
it works for the bad guys in scooby doo.
Look to V For Vendetta for inspiration. The character of V is never shown without his Guy Fawkes mask.
...so you're already planning for the year the series is cancelled so you can do your big reveal?

Not too bright a concept I think.

Joe Public likes to think he knows something the participants in the story don't - which is why Batman %26amp; Spiderman work so well.
I think it would keep people watching to try and catch a glimpse or guess the real story behind it. Peolpe watched Home Improvement for how many seasons with Wilson, the neighbor, never showing his face below the eyes until the last episode, right? Stay true to your character and your story!
well, it depends, if it is Live action, no. Remember ';The TICK';, that failed horribly. If it is a cartoon, then yeah, it would work fine.
