What is the meaning of a 3 eyed blue demon in traditional Japanese tattoos. May also be a Oni Mask/Demon.?

I work at a tattoo shop and am in the process of choosing an Oni mask, demon type tattoo. I like the symbolism of warding off disaster and guarding Buddhist temples. But I cannot find the meaning for a Blue Faced Three eyed demon, who has 2 horns and large menacing teeth. What is the meaning of a 3 eyed blue demon in traditional Japanese tattoos. May also be a Oni Mask/Demon.?
Dongyue Temple (Beijing) has a Three-Eyed Blue Demon.

For the Japanese at war, the blue-eyed demon worked as a metaphor for the enemy's evil ways.
