Will a surgical mask protect you from getting swine flu?

No... It helps prevent spreading it once you have the disease. It works by stopping the spraying of saliva that contain the virus when you sneeze. The virus itself is far smaller than those masks can filter. So, once they are airborne, surgical masks you might wear will nothing to prevent you from inhaling it.Will a surgical mask protect you from getting swine flu?

The swine flu is over, it is not more of a threat than any other flu, do you wear a mask to protect yourself from other flu strains? Probably not so forget it, it's over.
The surgical mask will protect others in case YOU have it which is why doctors give you one if they suspect flu symptoms from you. They are protecting themselves from you or possibly others that come in coughing.
